Urban Hike: Forest Park

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

To all of the fools who moved out of St. Louis in the last ten years. A meandering hike through Forest Park with Sam and Blue on a chilly gray day. Perfect time to stop at the boat house for a glass of wine outside on your journey.

Greensfelder

February 21st, 2011: Presidents' Day

Chillier today--around 45 degrees. Hiked most or all of the 3.6 mile Eagle Valley Trail. Part of this trail is also the part of the ten mile Green Rock Trail that runs from Greensfelder to Rockwood Reservation. Muddy, wet--watch out for horse manure. Saw only one other person--a jogger with her dog. Intercepted them twice along the way--her ipod blaring loudly through the otherwise quiet woods.

Chubb Trail at West Tyson Park

February 20, 2011

A breezy 70 degree day filled with brief friendly encounters.

Hiked the first portion of the Chubb Trail at West Tyson Park, down to the Meramec and looped back around along the river and through the fields. This was probably a five to six mile hike. Unfortunately I forgot all camera-like devices today and hiked it the old school way like I used to 11 years ago. I visited this trail six times between October '99-July'00, and then never again until today.

Saw many hikers, two women on horse back, six bicyclists, four trail runners, and a couple who offered me food as I passed their bench at the top of the hill I was climbing. Smiling and lifting a platter of apples, the man said, "We have Fuji--only the best for our hikers. Enjoy the rest of your trip."
